GOING FOR THE GOLD

What: Saints Golden Gala Ball.

Where: National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

Why: To celebrate 50th anniversary of St. Anthony Foundation.

Co-chairmen: Judy Love and James Pickel set the style for the suggested dress code of “gold dress, tie and accessories.” Love wore a stunning gold-skirted long gown and Pickel was sporting gold shoes and a gold-colored bow tie.

The evening: The gala had a tone of elegance with the guests' attire adding flashes of color among the tables, which were covered in gold shimmering clothes. Chairs were draped in white satin and centerpieces were tall gold candle holders topped with clear glass vases holding white flowers. Luxurious draped gold fabric provided the back drop for the stage where the band played.

The evening began with cocktails and a silent auction with entertainment by Avenue Duo. During the seated dinner Grant Stevens entertained. A live auction and dancing to Avenue followed.

Other committee chairmen were James Brinkworth, Barbara Brou and Beverly Funke. Serving on committees were Sherry Beasley, Jennifer Blair, Toby Boothe, Alice Dahlgren, Jamie Farha, Joan Frates, Susie Fuller, Kelly and Gary Gordon, Shellie Greiner, Susan Johnson, Janet Kirk, Myrla Pierson and Sylvia Slater.

STARRY, STARRY NIGHT

Event: Starlight Ball.

Presented by: Children's Hospital Foundation.

Where: Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.

Chairmen: Chrissy and Rob McLaughlin; honorary chairmen were Kirsten and David Griffin.

The evening: Stepping into the Great Hall was like walking into a Las Vegas Casino. Gaming tables were set up in two rooms and a large circular bar was in the center. Dealers were busy explaining rules and counting out cards for guests playing the faux casino games. Raffle tickets were hawked by costumed “cigarette girls”' who roved through the rooms during the cocktail reception. Vocalist Lisa Reagan Love performed before dinner was served. A rather feverish auction set the bidding high before dessert was served. A tent outside the club housed the band Skyrocket and dance floor.

The numbers: Early gross figures indicate more than $400,000 was raised.

Committee members: Some of the committee members were Kim O'Conner, Judy Blazek, Kristin Carson, Aimee Harlow, Amy Gray, Katie Taylor, Mary FitzSimons, Laura Givens, Libby Naifeh and Bridget Young Conley. Kathy McCracken is executive director.
