NORMAN — Corey Nelson’s appeal for a fifth year of eligibility was denied by the NCAA, a source confirmed, but OU has requested another review. The news was first reported by ESPN.com.
Nelson told The Oklahoman in a text message Thursday afternoon that he still hadn’t heard anything regarding his appeal.
The senior linebacker from Dallas was having the best season of his career before tearing a pectoral muscle against TCU on Oct. 5.
The team captain applied first to the Big 12 Conference for a medical redshirt and was denied. He appealed to the NCAA from there.
According to the ESPN report, the review is Nelson’s final recourse.
NCAA rules stipulate a player can’t have played in more than 30 percent of a season and still qualify for a medical redshirt.
