The requests just keep arriving. Santa has a full bag again this year and he's still looking through it.
Some transportation-related items have been moved to the priority level, while others are still being evaluated. Because there's a lot involved in some of these, it might take a little longer than “by Christmas.”
Here is a sampling of items that have been sent to the action center for, well, action:
Joe asks for improvements on the roadway around Lake Hefner. “We often travel the Hefner Lake Road from Britton Road around the southern part of the lake. It is in terrible condition and since it is used by bikers as well as cars, the road is far past a reconditioning.”
Norma-Lynne wants some illumination. “Recently, my husband and I were in Oklahoma City at nighttime and we found it almost impossible to read street signs on NW 63, May Avenue and in the Memorial Road area. Several streetlights were out, some intersections had no street signs and although it would be expensive, lighted signs to identify streets would be very helpful to the motorist.”
Mark requests some action in his area. “I take my son to school at Putnam City North High School most mornings and anyone else in that area can attest to how bad the traffic is in the area. The left turn lane at NW 122 and Rockwell, going west on 122nd and turning south onto Rockwell, needs to be reset during the school year to allow more cars to go through the intersection. There's probably 20 cars in line and five will get through. Also, the light for the left turn lane at Rockwell and Sam Bradford Drive also needs to be lengthened.”
Turnpike users have requests, too. Jae asks: “I frequently travel to the outer bounds of Oklahoma and last week I traveled to Walters via the Interstate 44 (H.E. Bailey) turnpike. ... The exit for Walters is quite confusing for Pike Pass users. The signs tell (them) to use the center lane, cash use the outside lane. I followed these and when I pass through they have poles up to prohibit the exit to Walters which is directly past the toll gate. This requires the driver to go 15 miles south before a turnaround. It would be beneficial for those needing to exit to Walters to use the cash lane.”
