A SPECIAL RECEPTION
Honoring mothers: Members of the Oklahoma Association of American Mothers met to honor the nominees for Oklahoma Mother of the Year, Oklahoma Young Mother of the Year and the Oklahoma Mother of Achievement. One mother in each category will be chosen to represent Oklahoma at the American Mothers conference at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo., April 24-26. The mothers chosen for the awards will be recognized at the state Capitol in April.
Hosts: Sherri and David Boyd were hosts for the event. About 100 guests attended the party.
Nominees: Nominated for Mother of the Year are Ann Cameron, Edmond, Lisa Gigstad, Piedmont, Karen Reichert, Washington, and Molly Tolbert, Oklahoma City; For Young Mother of the Year are Amy Balkman, Norman, Stephanie Brady, Edmond, Whitney Kolb, Oklahoma City, Jeannie Vinson, Chandler; for Mother of Achievement are Sarah Broermann,Tulsa, Shirley Harris, Oklahoma City, Margo Price, Edmond, and Edie S. Roodman, Oklahoma City.
FOR THE BABY
Party: Several hostesses honored Erin Beeler at a baby shower at The Coach House. Erin and Blake Beeler's baby is due in March. Hostesses were Candy Ainsworth, Janie Axton, Kathy Griffin, Diana Beeler, Patty Cohenour, Christy Everest, Carole Hall, Karlie Harmon, Jayne Henline, Susan Hoffman, Sue Homsey, Linda Howell, Linda James, Linda Klos, Marty Margo, Bette MacKellar, Penny McCaleb, Susan Parker and Barbara Quillian.
Decor: The tables were decorated with tall centerpieces of hydrangeas, roses and tulips with blue ribbons. There was also a teddy bear created with white daisy mums. The animal sported a bow tie and red mum and pearl buttons.
Menu: On the menu were tiny mushroom and onion tarts, short rib and sweet potato tarts, spicy chicken sandwiches, mac and cheese tarts, tomato, mozzarella, and basil skewers and tiny lemon tarts and coconut macaroon cookies,

Who/what/where: Juliana Samara was honored at a luncheon and kitchen/recipe shower at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club. Hostesses were Juliana's grandmother, Adeeba Samara, and aunts Lillian Badeen, Nadia Shadid, Dianna Kaish, Carolyn Hamra and Andrea Jones.
Why: The bride-to-be and Spencer Simon plan to be married in February.
How: Guests were greeted with champagne and white wine. The menu was butternut squash soup, grilled chicken served over mixed baby greens salad and molten chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. Cookbooks, kitchen gadgets, pots and pans, and monogrammed aprons were among the gifts. The hostesses gave her a mixer. Her aunts shared some of their favorite recipes, including Best Ever Chocolate fudge, Feta Cheese Salad, Crispy Sugar Cookies, Company Rice and Champagne Punch. Mother Leslie Samara gave a “recipe for a happy marriage,” including ingredients of “love, loyalty, faith, kindness and laughter, and to bake these with sunshine to be served daily!” Pictures from Juliana's life were displayed, and each guest received a tea towel with “showered with love” messages written on them.
Event: The opening reception for Artspace at Untitled Art Gallery's “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: The Art of Social Commentary” was held at the Gallery. The exhibit will be up until Feb. 15.
The exhibit: The opening gave attendees a chance to see the installation artist, Bryce Brimer, and one of the historical print artists, Michelle Martin, Tulsa. The exhibit was inspired by social issues of the past, present and future.
