— It’s been quite the whirlwind for Norman North quarterback John Kolar since Oct. 4.

He’s gone from a wide receiver to starting quarterback and now to an Oklahoma State commitment, capping a crazy period for the 6-foot-4 passer.

“It’s been unbelievable, to be honest,” Kolar said. “I’m just thankful the way everything has happened.”

Kolar announced his commitment to the Cowboys on his Twitter page Wednesday morning, becoming the first verbal commitment for OSU in the 2015 recruiting class.

“Just committed to play football at Oklahoma State University. Excited for the opportunities ahead,” the Scout.com three-star recruit tweeted.

Kolar said the Cowboys’ current quarterback situation, with part-time starter J.W. Walsh, Daxx Garmin and freshman Mason Rudolph battling for the job this spring, weighed into his decision. He said that’s a situation he feels comfortable entering after next season.

“I feel comfortable with the situation they have,” he said. “They have two quarterbacks on scholarship right now, J.W. Walsh and Mason Rudolph, a freshman. They feel like I can play there and that means a lot to me. I just feel comfortable with the situation.”

In six games at quarterback last season, Kolar completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,675 yards and 15 touchdowns. He threw just two interceptions.
