Confluence conference returns to Oklahoma City for digital creativity professionals

Digital marketing, social media and online branding experts will return for a second year at the Confluence conference in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District.

The conference, hosted by OPUBCO Communications Group, will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 6 at Lyric Theatre at the Plaza, 1727 NW 16.

David Christopher, founder of Confluence and senior inbound marketing manager for OPUBCO Communications, said the focus has expanded from last year’s “digital influence” theme to include more creative arts.

“It’s people who seek to reach people online, and whatever that means to you,” Christopher said. “That encompasses bloggers, people heavily into social media, journalists, public relations people, marketing professionals, web designers and all sorts of folks.

“We have a broad range of speakers, but all of them are speaking about how to effectively reach people online.”

Joanna Lord will give the keynote speech on building brand loyalty and brand advocates. Lord is vice president of consumer marketing at Porch, a Seattle-based network of home-improvement professionals.

Kyle Roberts, director of the Oklahoma-made film “The Posthuman Project,” will talk about making and promoting his movie, including crowd-funding strategies and developing a fan base. Cory Miller, founder of WebDesign.com and iThemes.com, will present “The New Rules for Entrepreneurship.”

Becky McCray, who owns a liquor store with her husband in Alva, will talk about using social media to drive success in rural businesses. She is co-author of “Small Town Rules.”

The Oklahoman’s Steve Lackmeyer will present “Journalism Disrupted,” on how blogging and social networks have changed journalism.
