LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's federal election commission says it will extend by one week a voter registration drive ahead of its April polls.
Independent National Electoral Commission spokesman Kayode Idowu told The Associated Press Friday that voter registration would continue until Feb. 5. Electoral officials are trying to register an estimated 70 million voters ahead of a crucial presidential election.
Nigeria's National Assembly passed a bill this week to allow for the extension. The registration drive has been plagued by technical problems and a lack of equipment.
