NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Hornets have formally waived their rights to reserve center David Andersen, who has been playing in Italy and never reported for NBA training camp.

The 6-foot-11 Andersen played in 29 games for New Orleans last season after being acquired in a trade with Toronto. He averaged 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds with the Hornets. He did not play during New Orleans' first-round playoff loss to the Los Angeles Lakers last spring.

The 31-year-old Australian has played two seasons in the NBA, starting in 2009-10 with Houston.
