Ohio man pleads no contest in abandoned pups case
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man accused of stuffing six puppies into a suitcase and leaving it next to a trash bin may not face jail time if he abides by a judge's order.
Howard Davis of Toledo entered no contest pleas to charges of abandoning animals and cruelty to animals. A second abandoning animals charge was dropped at a court hearing Monday.
Multiple media outlets report that the 53-year-old Davis, is due back in court June 22 when Judge Timothy Kuhlman will review the case. He could face four years of probation.
Davis agreed to surrender the animals to the Toledo Area Humane Society and repay it $466 for care it provided the puppies.
Hundreds of people from around the country expressed interest in adopting the puppies after their discovery earlier this month.
