SHERMAN, Texas (AP) — A Dallas company has broken ground on a 758-megawatt natural gas-fueled electric generating plant in North Texas.

Panda Power Funds began construction Thursday on the plant in Sherman, about 60 miles north of Dallas. The plant is expected to begin producing electricity for about 750,000 North Texas homes by late 2014.

A consortium of Bechtel and Siemens Energy Inc. is building the plant for Panda Power Funds. Panda also is building a 758-megawatt generating plant in Temple. It also recently built a 20-megawatt solar farm in Pilesgrove, N.J.
