DALLAS, Ga. (AP) — A judge has denied bond for a Georgia couple accused of confining their teenage son to a bedroom for years with little food.

Paul and Sheila Comer appeared Thursday in Paulding County Magistrate Court. The Comers were arrested last month and accused of abusing 18-year-old Mitch Comer. He weighed 87 pounds when he was found in Los Angeles.

The judge expressed concern that the Comers may be a flight risk. He cited assertions by the prosecution that the pair had lived at 15 addresses in five states since the late 1990s.

The emaciated teen told authorities he had suffered from years of abuse after being taken out of school in the eighth grade.

The Comers face charges of false imprisonment and cruelty to children.
