Rape trial for former UM quarterback set for Feb.

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — A Missoula judge has set a Feb. 8 trial date for a former University of Montana quarterback charged with raping an acquaintance at her residence where the two were watching a movie.

Jordan Johnson was suspended from the football team after being charged with sexual intercourse without consent. He has pleaded not guilty.

District Judge Karen Townsend set the trial date on Wednesday.

Prosecutors have requested a 500-person jury pool and estimate the trial could take as long as three weeks while the defense argues a 100-person pool is more reasonable for a trial they expect will last about a week.

Johnson and the woman are still students at the University of Montana and remain under a civil no-contact order.
