Pawtucket to save $25K a year in electric costs
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — The city of Pawtucket is hoping to save $25,000 a year by installing more energy-efficient lighting and other equipment at municipal buildings.
Mayor Donald Grebien (GREH'-bee-in) says the project involves the installation of new lighting, timers, motion sensors and other components in place of old ones at the City Hall complex, the Department of Public Works and the animal shelter at Slater Park.
His office says National Grid utility estimates the project will yield savings of just over $25,000 annually in electricity costs. The utility is subsidizing 70 percent of the $146,000 installation cost, and the city is eligible for a 10 percent rebate from the subcontractor doing the installation.
Grebien calls it a "win-win" for the environment and taxpayers.
Installation work will begin in two to three weeks.
