GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine says a cycling event will be held next summer in Grand Rapids in support of the school's skin cancer research efforts.

The Gran Fondo cycling event is scheduled for June 29, 2013.

The term, "Gran Fondo," is Italian and translates to "Big Ride."

The MSU College of Human Medicine's dean, Dr. Marsha Rappley, says proceeds from the event are earmarked for pilot studies "for the deadliest skin cancer, melanoma."
