Brown med school dean to step down

Associated Press Published: November 5, 2012

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Brown University's medical school dean is stepping down next year after less than five years on the job.

The university said Monday that Edward Wing will take a sabbatical from the Warren Alpert Medical School after he steps down on June 30, then return later as a faculty member.

Wing served first as chair of the department of medicine and physician-in-chief at the university's affiliated hospitals before becoming dean of medicine and biological sciences in 2008. Brown President Christina Paxson says Wing led the institution with confidence and vision during what she called a remarkable period of change.

The medical school last year opened a new building in the old Jewelry District and grew its incoming class to the largest ever.

A national search will be conducted for his replacement.
