BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire's Suicide Prevention Council along with other organizations is holding the eighth annual Suicide Prevention Conference in Bedford.
The conference theme on Friday is "Reflect, Refresh, Renew."
The keynote speaker is Jerry Reed, director of the Suicide Prevention Resource Center at the Education Development Center. He is speaking about his work nationally in assisting organizations in developing, implementing and evaluating programs and strategies to prevent suicide.
Reed also is discussing the newly released 2012 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention and its connection with local and statewide efforts.
The council says suicide is the second-leading cause of death among youth and young adults up to age 24, and the fourth leading cause of death for adults ages 25 to 54.
Nationally, veterans account for one-fifth of all suicides.
