MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Middle Tennessee linebacker Craig Allen is expected to make a full recovery after surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck.
Allen had surgery Sunday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Middle Tennessee said in a statement Monday.
The junior linebacker was expected to be released by Tuesday. Whether he can play football again has not been determined yet.
Allen was hurt late in the fourth quarter of last weekend's win over Troy and was taken off the field on a backboard, stopping the game for 16 minutes. The native of Carrollton, Ga., was the Blue Raiders' leading tackler this season. Coach Rick Stockstill says they are grateful Allen's injury was not any worse and their thoughts and prayers are with the linebacker as he recovers.
