WINDOWS UPDATE: Microsoft says it has sold 40 million licenses for Windows 8, the latest version of its flagship operating system, since the software hit the market Oct. 26.
CONCERNS PERSIST: Analysts still aren't convinced Windows 8 will be the breakthrough that Microsoft Corp. is counting on as it tries to reverse a slump in personal computer sales. The PC downturn has coincided with the rising popularity of smartphones and tablet computers for consuming and creating digital content.
LOWER EXPECTATIONS: Nomura Securities Rick Sherlund underscored his disappointment with the early response to Windows 8 by trimming his financial forecast for Microsoft.
