PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A government finance expert with experience working for several states has been picked as the new fiscal advisor to the Rhode Island Senate.
Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed announced Monday that Eugene Gessow (ghess-OW') will begin his work as Senate Fiscal Advisor before the legislative session begins next month.
The fiscal advisor leads a staff that assists lawmakers as they craft a budget and calculate state revenues and expenses.
Gessow is currently an assistant commissioner with the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance. He was the state Medicaid director in Iowa and Arkansas and has also held state government positions in Maine, Massachusetts and New Mexico.
The Rhode Island General Assembly convenes Jan. 1.
