WARTBURG, Tenn. (AP) — The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is hosting an open house to share information about a proposed oil and natural gas drilling research project in the Cumberland Forest.

The Institute plans to search for an industry partner to help determine the environmental impact of the drilling process. Drilling would take place at the Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center in Morgan and Scott counties.

The property is documented to contain natural gas and oil. A news release from the school calls it "an ideal location for university-based research into concerns about natural gas and oil development."

The public is invited to discuss the project with university experts. The open house takes place at the Wartburg Civic Center on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
