BETHANY BEACH, Del. (AP) — A proposed water park near Bethany Beach is prompting complaints from residents who fear it could hurt their property values.

More than 100 residents have spoken out against the proposed water park at public hearings. Sussex County Councilman George Cole says opposition has been unusually strong.

The (Wilmington) News Journal (http://delonline.us/W2pbyG) reports that the proposal includes 139 campsites for recreational vehicles, 60 cottages, a 300-space parking lot and an amusement park. The park would have a tube slide, wave pool and other water attractions.

Parts of the site are vacant while others have already been approved for 143 condos and townhouses for a development that was never started.
