News Summary: American rolls out new fares

NEW AIRFARES: American Airlines is rolling out new economy fares in response to customer complaints about extra fees.

PAY NOW OR LATER: For $68 or $88 more per round trip, American will sell a ticket that lets you check one bag and avoid the usual $150 fee if you must change the reservation.

SERIOUS CASH: American earned $1.1 billion in baggage and change fees last year, according to government figures. But fee revenue is growing slowly, and the new fares could offset that if passengers pay more upfront.
