Newspaper hires armed guards to protect office after backlash from gun map

A New York newspaper that published the names and addresses of registered gun owners in an interactive map shortly after the Newtown shootings has hired armed guards to protect its office.



The Journal News, which is located in West Nyack, N.Y., received harsh criticism in December for publishing the names. Some people thought the map endangered gun owners, police officers and city officials by listing their addresses.

The Rockland Times reports Journal news Rockland Editor Caryn A. McBride was alarmed by the volume of “negative correspondence” and hired the security guards to protect the office through Wednesday.
