No. 21 Kansas women edge W. Virginia 60-59

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Carolyn Davis hit a go-ahead layup with 42 seconds remaining and No. 21 Kansas defeated West Virginia 60-59 for a Big 12 victory Saturday night.

The Mountaineers' Averee Fields tied the game 56-all with 57 seconds left on two free throws. Davis hit her layup on the ensuing possession, then teammate Natalie Knight hit a pair of free throws with 5 seconds left for a 60-56 lead. Taylor Palmer made a 3-pointer for WVU (8-5, 0-2) with 1 second left, but the Mountaineers still fell short.

Angel Goodrich led the Jayhawks (11-2, 2-0) with 16 points and also had a team-best six of Kansas' 13 steals. Davis contributed 14 points.

Palmer's 3-pointer put West Virginia (8-5, 0-2) up 17-4 about 7 minutes into the game, but the Mountaineers led just 31-30 at halftime. Neither team led by more than five after intermission.

Palmer led West Virginia with 24 points.
