Corn edges higher while wheat, soybeans fall

Corn futures settled slightly higher Thursday, while wheat and soybean futures slipped. Energy ended mostly higher and metals prices fell.

Corn for March delivery rose 3.5 cents to end at $7.2425 a bushel. March wheat edged down 6.25 cents to $7.6850 a bushel and March soybeans fell 1.75 cents to $14.3525 a bushel.

Metals prices fell, with the exception of palladium.

February gold fell $16.80 to $1,669.90 an ounce and silver gave up 71.7 cents to $31.722 an ounce. Platinum for April delivery fell $8 to $1,683.80 an ounce and copper fell 0.8 cent to $3.6765 a pound.

Palladium edged up 50 cents to $726.70 an ounce.

Crude settled up 72 cents to finish at $95.95 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange

In other energy trading: Wholesale gasoline rose 2.91 cents to finish at $2.8629 a gallon, Natural gas fell 10.8 cents to end at $3.446 per 1,000 cubic feet and heating oil rose 0.83 cent to finish at $3.0864 a gallon.
