DANVERS, Mass. (AP) — A new scholarship at North Shore Community College has been named in honor of a Danvers woman who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The Karen Martin Memorial Scholarship was funded through the sale of a photograph Martin took of the World Trade Center towers just months before her death.
The scholarship was set up by Martin's aunt, Joan Greener of Salem.
Tatiana Burgos-Espinal, director of development for the North Shore Community College Foundation, tells The Salem News (http://bit.ly/XM5E4q ) the fund has enough money to award a $750 scholarship each year for 30 years.
The 40-year-old Martin was a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11. She received an associate's degree from North Shore Community College in 1984.
