PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia's gas utility says it has located the source of a gas leak that has disrupted mass transit service in the city and suburbs and forced dozens of evacuations.
Philadelphia Gas Works spokesman Barry O'Sullivan says crews found the leak in a 4-inch main that feeds a maintenance building at the Fern Rock Transportation Center in north Philadelphia. He says the gas has been shut off and crews are working to fix the problem.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority is starting to resume service on several regional rail lines, but delays are expected.
Officials the problem was first reported around 9 a.m. Wednesday. It has been disrupting subway and rails service, but no injuries are reported.
Fire officials say about 175 people were evacuated from area homes as a precaution.
