COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The Palisades nuclear power plant in southwestern Michigan is back in service following a roughly weeklong outage for repairs.

Plant spokesman Mark Savage says in an email that the plant along Lake Michigan's shoreline in Van Buren County's Covert Township was back on the state's electrical grid early Friday morning. It will return to full power over the next several days.

During the outage that began Feb. 15, workers repaired a component cooling water heat exchanger and replaced a damaged switch.

The plant owned by New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. has been under extra scrutiny by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission after numerous safety issues and shutdowns.
