RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Gas prices have fallen by an average of 3 cents per gallon in Virginia over the past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the price of a gallon of regular gasoline now averages $3.55 statewide. That's down slightly from the week before and 33 cents lower than a year ago.

Gas prices range from about $3.43 in the Roanoke metro area to $3.46 in the Charlottesville area and $3.55 in the Norfolk area. Prices averaged $3.52 in the Richmond area.

The auto club says the average price nationwide is $3.64. That's down 5 cents from the previous week and 28 cents lower than a year ago.

AAA says while prices have declined throughout most of March, it is still too early to say whether retail prices have peaked for the spring.
