The singer-songwriter said people have already been asking her about this year’s concert.
Smith, of
Oklahoma City, said there won’t be a concert come December, and she has a great reason.
She said her first child with husband
Justin King is due in late November, and she will be taking several months off to get to spend time with her family and get to know her new baby.
"The message is the same. We still want people to take time this holiday season to honor a teacher, Smith said, smiling during a recent interview.
She said she is offering a special discount on her Web site at www.Jamismith.com in the hopes that people will buy a copy of her Christmas album "Hope of All the Earth” for a teacher. She said the album also is available at Mardel.
"I’m really wanting people to take the time to honor a teacher, to write a note. Maybe it’s your kid’s teacher; you know that teacher really took an extra step.”
While the Christmas concert won’t take place, Smith’s fans can hear her voice in St. Anthony’s Hospital’s new commercials.
Smith said she had written the song "Love Never Fails” before hospital representatives contacted her about creating a tune for their newest promotion. She said the song will be included in her new album set for release in March or April 2010.
"To write a new song was such a thrill,” she said, alluding to her song "Faith in You,” which was used in a previous St. Anthony’s commercial.
Smith said she watched the new commercial footage featuring a St. Anthony’s nurse talking about her faith and knew that her "Love” song based on 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13 would be a good fit for the ad.
"I love my partnership with St. Anthony,” she said. "I’ve been really excited that they would let me be their voice, that I’ve gotten to do that twice now.”
Meanwhile, some fans may be wondering if Smith is planning to continue her career after her baby’s birth.
"I definitely want to get the word out that I’m still doing this,” she said.
"It’s what we feel blessed and honored to do, so we’ll still be at it.”

She's the flavor of the month now and I guess her canceling a concert is news.
