Opening Night is a New Year's Eve extravaganza that has live performances from musicians, dancers, singers, jugglers, painters and even poets.

The Arts Council of Oklahoma City is now accepting proposals to participate in Opening Night 2009. The deadline for proposal submission is 5 p.m. July 18.

Opening Night will be 7 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31 in downtown Oklahoma City. Performance sites include indoor and outdoor venues. The Arts Council of Oklahoma City encourages traditional artists and performers with new and innovative ideas to participate in this family-oriented event. All performers are paid.

Indoor performances can include classical music, rock, hip-hop, folk, country, theatre, dance, mime and performance art. Outdoor performances can include visual art or live performances, live music, exhibits, sculptures, visual art on the streets or on the sides of buildings and street performers.

Final selections from submitted proposals will be based on artistic merit, feasibility of proposal, creativity in use of performance spaces, costuming and props. Selections are also based on suitability of proposed performance to the family-oriented event and program variety.

Applications are available at www.artscouncilokc.com. Support materials must be included with the proposal. Proposal selections will be made by late August and notifications will be sent by mail.
