Astros score 4 in 7th to rally past Phillies, 7-6

Winning all their remaining games is the only way for the Astros to avoid a second consecutive 100-loss season.

However, DeFrancesco's speech didn't exactly go the way he planned when delivered to the youngest team in the league.

"Nobody knew anything about the '72 Dolphins," DeFrancesco said with a smile. "If it didn't happen in the last 10 days, nobody knows anything. I guess I have to come up with some more updated stories and motivational speeches."

Justin Maxwell hit a two-run double and Matt Dominguez added a two-run single in Houston's four-run seventh inning as the Astros rallied for the comeback victory. Maxwell laughed when asked about DeFrancesco's speech.

"It was about finishing strong and never giving up on a game so that was pretty good," Maxwell said.

Philadelphia lost three of four against Houston to fall 3 1/2 games behind St. Louis and Los Angeles in the National League wild-card race.

Houston starter Jordan Lyles gave up four runs on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts in five innings for Houston. Lyles has gone longer than five innings just once in his last six starts.

"It was just another fifth," Lyles said. "That number five gets stuck in my head."

Philadelphia scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Rollins singled with two outs, stole second and moved to third on Carlos Corporan's throwing error. Juan Pierre followed with a run-scoring double to left field.

Lyles intentionally walked Chase Utley, and Ryan Howard followed with a two-run double to left but Howard was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple.

"He needs to learn how to be a winning pitcher, and the only way to do that is to give us a chance to win every time he pitches," DeFrancesco said of Lyles. "If he can do that, his win/losses will turn around the other way."

Wesley Wright (2-2) pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the win. Wilton Lopez got the last five outs for his sixth save.
