Other options for the aging
Different types of care are available for people with different needs. They include:
The nursing facility provides 24-hour skilled care and related services for residents who require medical or nursing care.
Specialized nursing facility for persons with intellectual disabilities
This facility type meets requirements for a nursing facility and must provide specialized services and staffing to meet the needs of its clients.
Specialized nursing facility for Alzheimer's residents
This type of nursing facility provides services specifically for Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.
Residential care home
The residential care home offers or provides residential accommodations, food service and supportive assistance. A residential care home may provide assistance with meals, dressing, bathing, and other personal needs and it may assist in the administration of medications. However, it cannot provide medical care.
Assisted living center
The assisted living center is a home or establishment that may provide assistance with personal care, medications and ambulation. The center also may provide nursing supervision and intermittent or unscheduled nursing care. The assisted living center cannot provide 24-hour skilled nursing care as is provided in a nursing facility.
Continuum of care facility
The continuum of care facility combines the services of a nursing facility with an assisted living center or an adult day care center.
Adult day care center
The adult day care center provides health, social supportive and recreational services to impaired adults for more than four hours per day. Of course, participants do not stay in the center overnight and do continue to live in their own homes.
