Surplus property discussed

The Oklahoma City School Board instructed surplus property owned by the district be sold quickly. Board members discussed the issue at Monday's meeting.

“It's time to move on these properties,” board Vice Chairman Phil Horning said.

District 6 board member Jay Means said particularly attention should be paid to Page Woodson, which is one the National Register of Historic Places. The building is significant to black history in the area.

The district has nine surplus schools:

• Creston Hills Elementary School, 2240 NE 19.

• Dunbar Elementary School, 1432 NE 7.

• Dunjee Field House, NE 42 Street and Adair Street.

• Harrison Alternative Middle School, 721 W Britton.

• Musgrave School, Musgrave Boulevard and Gold Medal Drive.

• Old John Marshall High School, 9017 N University.

• Page Woodson School, 600 N High.

• Parker Elementary School, 12700 NE 42.

• Truman School, 1324 N Kelham.

Unused district properties cost money, said Jim Burkey, chief operations officer for Oklahoma City Public Schools. The district must pay insurance costs, and maintenance workers visit the properties regularly.
