Under Oklahoma law, a judge must grant a petition for a name change unless the judge finds “the change is sought for an illegal or fraudulent purpose” or a material statement in the petition is false.
The person seeking the name change must include in the petition “a clear and concise statement of the reasons for the desired change” and “a positive statement that the change is not sought for any illegal or fraudulent purpose, or to delay or hinder creditors.”
