MADRID (AP) — Atletico Madrid says Turkey midfielder Arda Turan has agreed to a three-year contract extension, tying him to the Spanish club until the end of the 2016-17 season.
The 26-year-old Turan joined Atletico from Galatasaray in 2011 and has become a key playmaker for coach Diego Simeone's squad.
Turan scored in Atletico's 3-1 win over Zenit St. Petersburg in their Champions League opener on Wednesday. He has also scored one goal through four rounds in the Spanish league this season.
Turan says "after two years wearing the Atletico shirt I feel like part of this club's big family."
