Laura Austin Thomas, assistant district attorney and managing attorney for the Payne and Logan counties district attorney's child support divisions, was honored during the Oklahoma Child Support Enforcement Association's annual training conference and awards presentation.
Nominated with five other attorneys from throughout the state, she was named the 2013 attorney of the year by the association's board.
She was recognized as an advocate for child support program throughout the state.
Her expertise in running high-performing child support offices has resulted in her being called upon as a consultant to multiple other child support offices that have struggled in performance.
Oklahoma Child Support Services is an agency of the state Department of Human Services.
Thomas became a prosecutor with the Logan County criminal division in 1987.
She took the management reins of the Payne/Logan Child Support Division in Stillwater in 1993, and opened a Logan County office in Guthrie in 1998.
“I did not know I had been nominated until the conference began,” Thomas said.
“It means a great deal to me, and I'm honored to have been chosen. I don't do this work alone, no one can. There are 13 bright, hardworking and incredibly dedicated individuals working with me in our offices that believe in the mission of this program and have made our offices and me a success and recognized leader in the state.”
