making appearances, Perdis said he’s most surprised at the lack of knowledge about choosing the correct foundation. Many makeup artists are trained about brands rather than makeup artistry, he said. "Foundation should give you a feeling of health, happiness and warmth,” he said. Another surprise, he said, is the number of women who don’t use foundation primer. "It allows foundation to last longer, blend easier and not create creases.” His Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer is one of his bestsellers, and what he includes on his list of five essentials. Others essentials include Long Black Mascara with lash-loving conditioning; China Doll foundation; Lip Service conditioner; and Luminous Lip Veil gloss. While some women pare their makeup routine down to using three or four items, others have enough products to open their own cosmetics store. What’s important is that women keep their look fresh and modern. He suggests tossing out two beauty items every couple of months to add something new. Some women use the same product or color for 10 years and it can be dating. "Ten years later, they’re 10 years older.” Another suggestion: If you see something on the runway that is a strong color, pare it down to 20 percent of the volume. "Wear it as a light wash of color. It will look better for a real, natural appearance. ... When you put it on, you’ll feel so much more beautiful, like you’ve kept up with fashion.”
