SYDNEY (AP) — Australia captain Lucas Neill has returned from Japan with his contract with Omiya Ardija set to expire and little likelihood of it being renewed.
The J-League club said on its website Wednesday there was "no timetable set for his (Neill's) return to Japan."
Neill has been an unused substitute for the 14th-placed Japanese team's past two matches. The J-League season ends this weekend.
New Australia coach Ange Postecoglou has said he wants his players have consistent match time ahead of next year's World Cup in Brazil.
Local media reported that Neill could return to the A-League, which has completed about one-third of its season.
