“The Women of Christmas: Experience the Season Afresh with Elizabeth, Mary and Anna” by Liz Curtis Higgs (WaterBrook Press, $14.99).
As always, Liz Curtis Higgs has a way with words and she shows it in her latest book by setting the scene appropriately in her poignant opening lines:
“Long before silver bells jingled, Christmas lights twinkled, and horse-drawn sleighs went dashing through the snow, God reached down from heaven with the best gift of all.
Love, wrapped in swaddling clothes.
Hope, nestled in a manger.”
Higgs is one of many Oklahoma women's favorite authors and inspirational speakers. She's drawn crowds at events like the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma's Women's Retreat and a visit to the Edmond Mardel store in July for a Bible study and book signing event. Plus, some know her as one of the Women of Faith conference presenters that regularly draw women to the Chesapeake Energy Arena.
In “Women of Christmas,” Higgs examines the biblical stories of Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist; Mary, the mother of Jesus; and Anna, an elderly widow and prophetess.
