FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — AutoNation's new vehicle sales climbed 32 percent in August, led by strong sales of premium luxury vehicles.
The automotive retailer said Thursday that sales of premium luxury cars rose 37 percent for the month. Sales of domestic vehicles increased 34 percent, while import vehicle sales climbed 29 percent.
Sales of new vehicles at car dealerships open at least a year increased 26 percent to 29,221 vehicles. This figure is a key gauge of a car dealer's health because it excludes results from location recently opened or closed.
AutoNation Inc. said that the Labor Day holiday weekend was included in the current period. A year ago, the holiday weekend was included in September.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. company expects to report its September new vehicle sales results on Oct. 2.
