Autry knife brings back memories of time with dad

A Gene Autry pocket knife.

Of all the gifts I gave my dad for various holidays, the one I remember most was the Gene Autry pocket knife I bought at a Cowboy Christmas trade show during the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Different things link a father and son.

Faith, family and so on. Include Gene Autry in the so on.

My dad, Clarence Painter, loved Autry's Western movies, music and the fact that Autry, too, had worked for the Frisco Railroad, although in a different time and area.

Autry, whose family moved to Ravia when he was 15, worked around the Frisco Railroad Station off and on while in school and became a telegrapher after graduating.

I admired Autry because he owned Major League Baseball's California Angels when I was young. And I appreciated the fact that he was a rodeo stock contractor.
