UPDATE: TAHLEQUAH - A custody hearing has begun at the Cherokee County courthouse in the ongoing court battle over the child known as Baby Veronica. It's the first of two scheduled court hearings today. The second will be in Cherokee Nation tribal court.

On Thursday, a state court order was issued that required the biological family of Baby Veronica, including the 3-year-old girl, to appear in court before Special Judge Holli Wells. The judge ordered the hearing to be closed.

Dusten Brown, Veronica's biological father, along with his wife and the child's grandparents were seen entering the courthouse for the hearing at about 8:40 a.m. Veronica was not with them, and it's unclear if she will be at the hearing.
