OU at the Orange Bowl
This will be Oklahoma’s 19th trip to the Orange Bowl — the fourth-most trips to any one bowl for a school. Here’s a look at how the Sooners fared in their first 18 trips to southern Florida:

→1938: Tennessee 17, OU 0

The Sooners had allowed only 12 points all season but were smashed in this battle of unbeatens.

→1954: OU 7, Maryland 0

Larry Grigg’s 25-yard TD run was the only score in the first game of a contract that pitted the champs of the Big Seven and ACC. Maryland was coached by Jim Tatum, who coached the 1947 Sooners.

→1956: OU 20, Maryland 6

The national champion Sooners trailed 6-0 at halftime but went into Bud Wilkinson’s "fast-break” offense and dominated the second half.

→1958: OU 48, Duke 21

The Sooners had just 11 first downs and 279 total yards, but David Baker and Dick Carpenter returned two of Duke’s four turnovers for touchdowns.

→1959: OU 21, Syracuse 6

Under a new bowl contract that allowed repeat trips for conference champions, the Sooners got a 42-yard TD run from Prentice Gautt.

→1963: Alabama 17, OU 0

Wilkinson lost his last bowl game courtesy of two future NFL stars.
