NORMAN — I don’t do that much cooking, so I don’t really have that one item that I’m known for like some people do.
I had a grandma who was known for her banana bread and coconut cream pie. My other grandma makes a fabulous Italian cream cheese cake.
My sister-in-law makes great spinach dip. People always request it for family gatherings.
My mom’s a great cook too; people love everything she makes.
Surprisingly, nobody ever says to me, "Hey Jennifer, why don’t you whip up one of those frozen dinners for the potluck?”
Some women have decided to make the desserts they’re known for, not for the next church dinner but to raise money to help Norman’s needy.
The group is hosting an online bake sale benefiting United Way of Norman.
The women were brainstorming how they could help the agency, even though their families are on tight budgets this year, said Michelle Sutherlin.
They decided to bake up some of their favorite sweet treats and have a virtual bake sale.
The women have set up a Web site, www.confec
tionsforacause.com, where people can place orders.
The bakers will deliver them to United Way of Norman office for people to pick up.
The goodies include cakes, pies, cookies and candies. The menu even includes a couple of sugar-free items. Prices range from $5 to $15.
The women are donating their time and supplies, so all money collected will go to United Way of Norman.
Heading into the holiday season, this could be quite a help for those of you who, like me, aren’t cooks. And, it’s for a good cause.
