Barack Obama plays on TV, Mitt Romney gets serious

While Barack Obama spent Tuesday on the ha-ha late-night show circuit, his November challenger was focused not on guffaws or glitz but on the grit and granite of good government.

One “G” word that Mitt Romney need no longer be concerned with is Gingrich, as in Newt. He's leaving the presidential race, having attracted fewer voters in the Pennsylvania primary than did Rick Santorum, who hasn't been a candidate since April 11. Unfortunately, Santorum has yet to play the statesman and endorse Romney. Even Gingrich has called for conservatives to unite behind Romney.

On a night when Romney was savoring primary victories in five states, including Pennsylvania, Obama was clowning around on a late-night talk show. Look for more such appearances as Obama tries to maintain enthusiasm for himself among younger voters.

But those younger voters have the most to lose from an Obama second term. They need jobs. They need a solution to the entitlement meltdown that will affect them far more than it does their parents and grandparents. They need a government that doesn't lock them into a lifetime of taxpayer-financed debt service.
