Plan your route. Let early bird specials, opening hours and the most coveted items on your list be your guide. If your No. 1 item is a leather jacket at a store that opens at 8 a.m., don’t try to squeeze in a little toy shopping an hour earlier at a retailer across town. You can expect heavy crowds, more traffic on the streets and fewer parking spaces.

Don’t hesitate. If you see something you think you may want, grab it and then decide whether it’s a keeper before you head to the checkout counter. If you pass on it, chances are it won’t be there when you circle back around.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. This isn’t the day to show the world how stylish you are.

Don’t forget your lists.
