NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Friday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

Barnes & Noble Inc., up 62 cents at $14.97

British publisher Pearson PLC said it is investing in the book seller's NOOK unit, paying $89.5 million for a 5 percent stake.

Hewlett-Packard Co., down 36 cents at $13.68

The Department of Justice is investigating HP's unit Autonomy, which the computer maker has accused of fudging its accounting.

Herbalife Ltd., up $1.09 at $29.39

Shares of the nutritional supplements company continued to rise ahead of its analyst day meeting to discuss its business model.

Tower International Inc., up 63 cents at $8.07

The metal company said that it sold its Korean business in order to strengthen the company and increase shareholder value.

MagicJack VocalTec Ltd., up $1.67 at $17.95

The internet phone company named a new chief executive officer and issued a strong forecast for its fourth quarter.

Synchronoss Technologies Inc., up 68 cents at $21.17

The mobile services company bought NewBay from Research In Motion Ltd. for $55.5 million to expand its cloud-based services.

Canadian Solar Inc., down 10 cents at $3.27

The solar panel maker completed the purchase of two solar power projects from MEMC Electronic Materials Inc.'s SunEdison unit.

Omeros Corp., down 52 cents at $5.32

The biopharmaceutical company said that its knee surgery drug, OMS103HP, did not meet its main goal in a late-stage clinical trial.
