The Barons' signing of veteran defensemen Brett Clark, 36, and Randy Jones, 31, has had a trickle-down effect. Alex Plante and Nathan Deck were healthy scratches for both games against Grand Rapids.

Veteran defenseman Theo Peckham also is in Oklahoma City to work on his conditioning before returning to Edmonton. The Barons' other three defensemen in the weekend series were Colten Teubert, Taylor Fedun and Martin Marincin.

“We're going with the guys who have pretty much been with us all year,” Nelson said. “There are no more tryouts. Everybody has had an opportunity to prove themselves.”

The Oilers, the parent club of the Barons, have lost five consecutive games after getting off to a 4-2 start. The one consolation is three of those five losses have been in overtime or a shootout. ... Blake Hatfield won a 2013 Ford Taurus. The Barons are giving away a vehicle at every Saturday home game this season. ... For the second consecutive game, most of Brandon Davidson's ice time Saturday was at forward, a position he hasn't played since he was 15 years old. Davidson returned Friday night, his first game in more than three months after undergoing chemotherapy for testicular cancer.
