DUNCAN— Friends and teammates of an Australian baseball player who was fatally shot as he jogged in Oklahoma will attend a charity exhibition game Thursday night to raise money for a scholarship in his name.

Chris Lane, 22, was shot in August as he jogged down a street in Duncan, where he was visiting his girlfriend and her parents. Three teenagers have been charged, including one boy who told investigators they shot Lane because they were bored.

Lane had been preparing for his senior season at East Central University. East Central will play in the exhibition game against Redlands Community College, the school Lane attended in El Reno, an Oklahoma City suburb, before transferring to East Central in nearby Ada.

The game, which is being held at a high school in Duncan, is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted for the Chris Lane Memorial Scholarship Fund. Lane's girlfriend, collegiate golfer Sarah Harper, will throw out the first pitch.
